A Bundle Of Nerves...

I spent the weekend trying to relax, to take my mind off of Tuesday morning. While in the moment I did amazing...no thoughts...only fun. Kat and I went to Tannehill on Friday and I took TONS of photos. Yesterday, she and I, along with two of her friends, went to Oak Mountain for some fun on the water. Sadly no photos, but got lots of sun and a great workout on a paddle boat. (Last night I was red and crispy...the 60+ SPF sunscreen LIED to me...lol...today I'm only red and tender.) Now it's Monday, less than 24 hours until my interview, and I feel like I have a billion butterflies in my tummy ready to burst free!!

I'm scared that I'm too old. I'm scared that I've been out of the work force too long. I'm scared that me not being able to lift anything above 10-15lbs may hinder me getting this job. On the upside, I have my resume and my clothes picked out and ready.

Dear Lord please let me get through the next 24 hours in one piece, and if it's your will...let this job be mine!

Our Gifts For Passing The Sixth Week

FROM SCRAP ORCHARD:

FROM {WE ARE} STORYTELLERS:
a coupon good for a kit of your choice in our boutique
(value of coupon $5.49)

ADSR4 - Challenge #12 - Storytellers

ADSR: CHALLENGE 12 -- {we are} storytellers

Racers, welcome to {we are} storytellers! You are certainly on the home stretch now! Congratulations to all those that are participating. We are sure you've preserved many memories along the road.

This challenge is an INTERSECTION -- Players must collaborate on one project.

Pretend you and your team mate are sitting on a porch, sipping a cup of tea and chatting. You stumble upon the topic of storytelling, your eyes light up and you begin talking about why storytelling is so important to each of you.

Please create a layout that expresses what storytelling means to each of you. Why did you each choose this form (scrapbooking in general and/or digital specifically) to tell your stories? Why is storytelling important? How do you feel about storytelling (is it a creative outlet, way to express your words, document your family's experiences, etc.) Why are you a storyteller? (You don't have to answer all these questions, consider them food for thought and to give you an idea as to what we are looking for.)

Your story must include:
{we are} storytellers word-art provided
At least 1/2 of the layout must be journaling, more the better
At least 5 elements/embellishements
No more than 2 pieces of paper
Only 2 small photos, 1 of each of you, placed in the bottom right hand area of your page. IF you have a photo of the two of you together, you may use it and only required to have 1 photo. The bottom line, we want to see your beautiful faces!

Due to the fires in Victoria, Australia, (and she was away donated goods to those in need) and my recent stay in the hospital, (where I spent over 36 hours stuck in a bed) Lilly and I decided it best if I scrapped the page since I would have the most time on my hands.

We discussed elements and the overall look we wanted. We also discussed the journaling...and even though I wrote the final journaling, she wrote the section about herself and sent it to me to incorporate into the journaling to make it feel as a story.

JOURNALING:
We’re separated by a vast amount of water…Lily’s in Australia and I am in Alabama, USA…and though we are so far apart and have never been able to meet face to face, I feel as close to her as any friend that I know in person.. Every night, my bedroom transforms into a backyard oasis, as I log into Windows Live Messenger and see her name in bold letters. I picture the two of us getting comfy in the rocking chairs beneath my favorite tree as we say our hellos.

Some days we only discuss the week’s challenges and stuff pertaining to the ADSR4 season. Other days we vent about things that get on our nerves. Some times we just talk about our families. However, most recently, the topic of choice has been about our health.

Lilly has suffered from depression all of her life. Once upon a time, she was dependant on medication. Now, however, her therapy is scrap booking. She says it keeps her grounded from being sucked back into that black hole and it has truly saved her life!

For myself, scrap booking plays many roles. It’s a way to record history for my children, It’s an outlet for creating artistic images that I can frame and use as décor in my home. Most importantly though, it keeps me sane on the days I’m not able to get out of bed due to my rheumatoid arthritis.

Scrap booking, to us, is our lifeline…

ADSR4 - Challenge #11 - One Question

This challenge was hosted at Scrap Orchard.
THE QUESTION IS:

You know the drill!

You can ask any one person (dead or alive; family, friend, famous or foe) one question. Who would it be and what would you ask them?

Hmmm… interesting. But let’s up the ante a bit, shall we? (if you are familiar with my “Bring It” Challenge, you know I’m not gonna let you get off that easy!!)

Here are some layout requirements:

1. Your layout can have only ONE photo. The photo must either be of the person to whom you are posing the question OR must represent the question you are asking.

2. You MUST include your question in your layout and your question can be the ONLY words/journaling on your layout. This means you have to tell us what your question is, but that’s it. You can’t explain the question or answer the question. I'm a big fan of “less is more”, so express yourself through just your question and your photo.

Our Gifts For Passing The Fourth Week

FROM SUNSHINE STUDIO:

FROM OSCRAPS:
a $6.00 CG good toward the purchase of
one of their Oscraps Collaboration Kits

ADSR4 - Challenge #8 - Scrapper Idol (scraplift)

Challenge #8 was found at Oscraps.

FAST FORWARD! This challenge is for both players, but the first team finished may skip the FEBRUARY 1 challenge if they wish!

A lot of us here at Oscraps are totally excited about the new season of American Idol...so we decided to make our own version...Scrapping Idol!

What is a Scrapping Idol, you ask?
Scrapping Idol: a scrapper that amazes, inspires, awes, and/or makes you want to be able to scrap just like them.

We all have a scrapper that makes us drool over every single layout they crank out. So, your challenge begins with going to that person's gallery and choosing a layout to scraplift. Go on...you know you want to.

Ok, got a layout in mind? Here's what you have to do to complete this stop on ADSR:

1. Scraplift a layout from your the gallery of your Scrapping Idol.
Flip it, twist it, turn it, do whatever you gotta do. Just make sure your layout is inspired in some way by your idol's layout. If it isn't obvious how you scraplifted the layout, be sure to explain it in your credits...we don't want those poor ADSR judges working too hard, do we?

2. Include a star somewhere on your layout.
The star can be a brush, a doodle, a sticker, an element, star paper, a star of ANY type! If you need a star, we have at least one in our freebie section of the store! Here's a link to our Freebie section!

3. Include the word DREAM somewhere on your layout.
It doesn't matter where or how, just make sure the word DREAM is somewhere on your layout. If it is the journaling, please include the journaling in your credits. The word "dream" will be accepted in any language...just please point it out for the judges. (Dreamer or Dreaming also acceptable.)

ADSR4 - Challenge #6 - Roadblock/Flip & Spin

This challenge was hosted by Inspiration Lane!

Inspiration Lane ROAD BLOCK:

Welcome to Inspiration Lane, the next stop on the Amazing DigiScrap Race. This leg of the race is a ROAD BLOCK which means only 1 person can participate. You must choose a layout from your partners gallery and scraplift it using the following direction:

Take your chosen layout from your partners gallery and flip it either horizontally or vertically.
Now take the layout and rotate it 45 degrees.
You must use this "new" version as the sketch for your layout.
When creating your layout you must use the EXACT same number of items that your partner used in the original layout, no more, no less.

******************************

This was very similar to a challenge that we had to do last season, so since Jay did it then, I chose to do it this time...

ADSR4 - Challenge #5 - No Photos/3 Different Frames

This challenge was hosted by Anita Stergiou Designs

Your challenge for this stop is to create a layout that has no photos on it, but includes at least 3 different and separate photo frames.

Sometimes we have special thoughts, feelings and/or memories about a person or place or event or pet or whatever, but no photos. OR, we could be missing someone who has passed on or something that is no longer in our lives and would dearly love to be able to express that on a page.

Because scrapbooking is all about recording our life journey and that of our family we can still create a page to record and preserve those special thoughts, feelings and/or memories with a little thought and planning and with the creative use of photo frames and journaling (although journaling is not required for this challenge).

You could even try doing a collage of elements and paper cut-outs within the photo frames to create a pictorial representation of your missing photos.

***********************************

Lilly sat this one out since we had the option to do so...I decided to scrap it just to see if I could do it. (Plus there was an extra posting bonus that Anita was giving away that I wanted to win for my partner because she really liked it. *grins*)

WE WON THE FAST FORWARD!!

At 7:04pm, Ernie officially announced that we (THE MAJOR CONTENDERS) were the first team to complete and upload challenge #4!! WHOO HOOO!! That means we can skip the January 18th challenge!!

*doing happy dance*

ADSR4 - Challenge #4 - Art&Soul

Tangie Baxter hosted the 4th challenge...

The Art and Soul Challenge!

You both must complete this challenge! However, this is a FAST FORWARD challenge which means that the first team done can SKIP the January 18th challenge if they wish!

1. The Art of it: Your LO must have artistic flair! Literally! Your LO must have at least 3 things "artsy" and/or "altered" on it--(such as but not limited to: paint splatters, a paintbrush, paint spills, crayon doodles, goopy glitter, watercolors, canvas AND/OR altered art items such as wings on photos, art dolls, vintage doodads, ephemera, etc). Really stretch yourself and try something "artsy" that you haven't tried before!

2. The Soul of it: You must journal something from your Soul. Something positive, heartfelt and meaningful to you in your life! Something you've learned, something you've gleaned from your life experience. Perhaps something you would want to pass on to the next generation! (It can even be your favorite quote and why it touches/inspires you) Uplift us, make us smile--inspire us! You must share your journaling with us-if it's hard to read or blended into the background-part of the challenge is to share your journaling in your description.

LILLY'S LAYOUT:

JOURNALING:
Scrapbooking, to me, is so much more than just making layouts. I use it as a form of therapy. All of my life I have suffered from depression, but I am no longer dependent on Anti-depressant medication to pick me up....scrapbooking has helped me find a way out of the black hole. It may not work for all people that suffer from depression, but, for me, it has literally saved my life.

ADSR4 - Challenge #3 - First Layout Redo

Congratulations, you have found the third challenge on the Amazing Digital Scrapbook Race journey. (Found at Gotta Pixel)

This is a regular stop, which means that both racers will need to do their own layout.

Your challenge is simple.
Find the first layout you created that is still uploaded to a gallery and scraplift it using techniques, trends and concepts that you have learned since you did that original layout.

You can...
  • You can use a different kit, elements, papers, brushes, shapes, etc.
  • You can add and remove elements, papers, etc.
  • You can use a different sized canvas.
  • You can move things around and change the overall sketch of the layout.
  • You can use the first layout uploaded to any gallery. This does not necessarily mean that it's the first layout you ever did. When you view your gallery, at whichever site it is at, it needs to be the first layout uploaded to that gallery. Example: This is my gallery at Gotta Pixel (I have other galleries on other sites). If you go to the very last page, and find the very last image, that is the first layout I uploaded to Gotta Pixel. That is the layout that needs to be used.
You can not...
  • You can not add additional photos to the layout.
  • You can not remove any photos from the layout.
  • You can not add additional text to the layout; journaling, alphas that spell out a word, word art, journaling. The only text that appears on the layout must be identical in verbiage to what it was originally. You can change the font, you can convert text into an alpha. If your layout previously used an alpha or wordart, you can convert that alpha/wordart to text or use a new alpha/wordart to spell the same thing. When you are done though, you must have the same words that were on the old layout, on the new layout.

Journaling Reads:
On this particular day, my husband and oldest
son went to work, leaving the rest of us at
home with no transportation. Though I would
have been content remaining indoors scrapping
Christmas photos all day, Robert and Kat got
bored quickly. After an hour of listening to
them mope and sigh through the house, I told
them to find something to do. Since Robert
only had a few days left before returning to
college in Michigan, they decided we needed to
do a photoshoot in the backyard. It was one
of my favorite moments during Robert's visit.

ADSR4 Challenge #1 - Ripped Photo

FROM HUMMIE
http://www.hummiesworld.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=2353
My challenge for you is to

1) Rip and tear a photo into three or more pieces! (that's a photo, not papers!)
2) Use journaling on your layout (something I stress is SO important).

That's it! Anything else goes! You can have more than three tears. You can have more than one photo on your layout. You can have a lot or a few elements. You can use any theme. Just get a memory preserved as that is what scrapping is all about.

You can use any method to rip your photos. You can use any products from anywhere to rip your photos. However, I do have some tutorials available as shown below. Let's all help each other learn.

The ADSR4 Kick Off Chat...

There was some confusion as to what time the chat began...including on the host's part. *giggles* There were even problems with a lot of the racers unable to get into the chat room because it had filled up quickly. Theresa was a trooper though and stayed an extra hour to make sure everyone got a chance to pick up the code for her kit for attending.

Isn't it gorgeous?! I know our team is going to have loads of fun playing with this one!! If you missed out on the chat but would love to have the kit...you can now pick up this beauty in the store HERE.
